Somatic Experiencing

What is a Somatic Experience?

A Somatic Experience is a guided immersive experience tailored to help you reconnect with your body's wisdom. Instead of being in the logical, thinking mind, somatic work encourages you to drop out of the mind and into the body, using movement, breath, sound, and awareness to regulate the nervous system, release trapped and stored energy, and create a deeper sense of safety, liberation, and embodiment.

How is this different from traditional talk therapy?

Talk therapy works mainly with the mind, pathologizing experiences, and intellectualizing your emotions and feelings. Somatic work engages the body - where trauma, stress, and emotions are stored. By working directly with sensation and movement, we are able to access layers of healing that words alone simply cannot reach. Somatic work coupled with therapy, counseling, or guidance through a mentor, spiritual guide, or spiritual coach work hand in hand beautifully.

What happens in a Somatic Experience session?

Each session is unique and intentionally crafted for the individual going into the experience. However, these sessions often include body scans, practicing presence and mindfulness, tapping, shaking, stretching, sounding, free movement, ecstatic dance, and more. You'll be guided to notice sensations, express emotions safely, and allow your body to release what it's been holding.

Do I need prior experience?

Not at all. Somatic experiences are designed for anyone - whether you're completely new to inner work or have been on your healing path for years. Sessions always move at a pace that feels safe and aligned for you.

What are the benefits?
  • Nervous system regulation

  • Decreased cortisol

  • Release of stored trauma and tension

  • Increased body awareness

  • Deeper trust in yourself

  • Emotional resilience

  • Mental clarity

  • Emotional regulation

  • Reconnection with your voice

  • Connection to sensuality and sexuality

  • More energy and vitality

  • Increased connection to the divine

  • & so much more.

Is somatic work scientifically backed?

Yes! Research in neuroscience and trauma studies have shown that body based practices calm the amygdala, stimulate the vagus nerve, and support neuroplasticity. Somatic work has been proven to be effective for those with PTSD, anxiety, depression, stress, and chronic pain.

Will I feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed?

You may feel uncomfortable. Coming into a space with the intention of reconnecting with a part of you that society has pushed you to disconnect from can be uncomfortable for some. The goal of somatic work is to push through the discomfort and allow yourself to be seen, heard, and felt viscerally. You may have big emotional releases and you will be guided to process them in a safe container. And you are always in control of your experience.

How many sessions do I need?

Some people feel a shift after just one session. Others choose ongoing support to create lasting nervous system regulation and deep transformation. It's encouraged to do this work for at least four weeks to create stability - but you know what is best for you. Together, we can map out the best path for you and your needs.

What do I need to bring?

Bring yourself, comfortable clothing, and a water bottle. Some people like to bring a journal as well for reflections after a session.
